Preheat oven to 375.
Diced the onion and sauté briefly, until a bit soft.
Place onion in a medium-to large casserole dish.
You may add salt and pepper to each layer, if desired.
Slice carrot and arrange in a layer above onion.
Slice potato and arrange in a layer above carrot.
Spread the peas over the potato layer.
Spread rice over the peas.
Mix the can of tomato soup and a can of water together. Pour over other layers.
Arrange sausages or ground beef on the top.
Place cover on casserole dish and place on middle rack in oven for 45 minutes.
Take cover off for the last 15 minutes so that the meat can brown up.
The casserole is done when a fork can easily go through the potato and carrot layers.
Take out of oven and let rest for 15 minutes before serving.
